Innovative Radar Enclosure

To develop a lightweight radar enclosure system.  Reducing the weight from 250lbs to under 90lbs.

process

Worked with marketing and systems engineers to understand critical components and requirements of the system.  Prototyped enclosure  in low cost chipboard to understand physical constraints and identify smallest possible footprint.

solution

Developed new custom enclosure system with three main weight reducing features:

 

1) A rotating chassis that eliminated the dead space needed for component removal in original design. Components could now be removed to the outside of the enclosure.

2) Designed composite aluminum structure to dramatically reduce weight of entire structure.

3) Incorporated heat pipe technology for light weight cooling system.
