Java Ball

Travel mugs never really fit into cup holders so why not make one that doesn’t need a cup holder at all?

This concept came out of a speed sketch exercise to sketch as many coffee mugs as I could in 3 min. This idea was so interesting I took it to a production CAD model state and printed functioning SLA prototypes.

Rather than having your mug sit in a cup holder, this mug rolls around on the seat next to you until you are ready for a drink. grab java-ball by the handle and simply squeeze the rubber button on the inside of the handle and the lid springs slowly open. close it to seal it back up. When you are walking around the office, the cover simply pulls off of the spring hinge so that it doesn’t get in the way.
